Apple Watch trumps: No other smartwatch can keep up

The Apple Watch can defend its place at the top of the smartwatch market. This is the conclusion reached by the market researchers at Counterpoint Research. The competition can catch up a bit, but that doesn’t change much in the overall balance of power. Above all, one number shows how much Apple has overtaken its competitors.

Compared to the previous year, the smartwatch market grew by 24 percent (source: Counterpoint Research). In particular, the strong demand in the price range below 100 US dollars was responsible for this growth spurt. Although Apple does not offer a smartwatch there, the US company was able to defend its leading position in the past year.

Apple Watch most popular smartwatch in the world.

Apple had a 30.1 percent market share in 2021. Compared to the previous year, this is a slight minus of around 3 percent, but the competition was hardly able to benefit from this weakness. Samsung is in second place with 10.2 percent.

After all, the South Koreans were able to increase: In 2020, Samsung still had to be satisfied with a market share of 8.9 percent. The switch to Google’s Wear OS and the launch of the Galaxy Watch 4 should have given the electronics company a boost. It is currently available from Amazon at a reduced price.

the Bronze medal goes to Huawei with 7.7 percent. Despite the launch of several new smartwatch models, the Chinese manufacturer is recording falling market shares: Compared to 2020, Huawei has a minus of 3 percent in its books.

Xiaomi recorded strong growth. The busy company didn’t even make it into the top 5 in 2021. But in just 12 months Xiaomi could do it Market share more than doubled from 1.5 percent to 3.6 percent.

Keep your eyes open when buying a smartwatch:

Apple Watch accounts for more than 50 percent of smartwatch sales

Apple remains the smartwatch king for the time being – although the group only launched a small update with the Apple Watch Series 7 in 2021, which brought hardly any innovations worth mentioning. A new edition of the Apple Watch SE was also missing. Despite this, 50 percent of the total sales of the smartwatch industry was accounted for only by the Apple Watch.
