Apple would abandon iPads this year… to come back in force next year

According to a new estimate by Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple would not bring anything new to the iPad mini in 2023. The device would, however, be renewed in early 2024.

Mass production of the new iPad mini is more likely to start in Q1 2024“. This is what Ming-Chi Kuo now predicts in a tweet shared on January 30 where he also mentions the future folding iPad. Often well informed when it comes to Apple, the TF International Securities analyst believes that Apple has no particular plans for its iPad mini in 2023.

The iPad mini, which had been completely renewed at the start of the 2021 school year, would therefore not be replaced before the first quarter of 2024, a period in which Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that a new model could then enter production. This prediction, however, serves as a (small) correction, while the analyst estimated a few weeks ago that the next iPad mini would surface either at the end of 2023 or at the beginning of 2024. The second track would therefore be the one to be favored from now on.

Above all, this would mean that Apple would not intend to launch a new iPad at all during the year 2023. The firm would thus leave room for its competitors in the tablet market. Something to come back in force next year with not only this iPad mini 2024, but also with its very first folding tablet.

iPad mini 7: what to expect?

In this case, this new generation of iPad mini (the seventh) would not bring any major novelty in terms of design. Kuo recently indicated that the main change would rather concern the processor chosen by Apple to replace the A15 Bionic chip of the current model. This chip (potentially the A17 Bionic) will likely perform better and be more energy efficient. For the rest, we would keep the same chassis as the iPad mini 6, with a USB-C port, a fingerprint reader housed in the lock button and a 5G option. The screen would also remain based on IPS LCD technology, with an identical format of 8.3 inches.

Anjie Technology will be the new beneficiary of the all-new design foldable iPad. There may be no new iPad releases in the next 9-12 months as the iPad mini refresh is more likely to begin mass production in 1Q24.

According to previous, more adventurous rumors, Apple would nevertheless consider adding its ProMotion technology and a 120 Hz refresh to its next iPad mini. An interesting possibility on paper which had nevertheless been contradicted by Ross Young, another renowned analyst on display issues. According to him, it is unlikely that the iPad mini 7 is equipped with this technology. We will, however, learn more about the device over the months and from leaks that are sure to appear online between now and launch.
