Are you sure you’re that poorly paid?

Because employees tend to underestimate their salary compared to that of others, the Observatory of Inequalities puts online a comparison of private sector salaries, based on 2022 figures. You are sure that your neighbor earns a better living than you ? Take the test.

Do you feel like you’re poorly paid? On the scale of wages for all workers, this is perhaps not the case. A very simple toolput online by the Observatory of Inequalities, allows you to know immediately where your income places you on the salary scale.

With one click, it allows you to know the percentage of private sector employees who earn less than you. Do you work full time and your net salary before taxes is 3000 euros? This is better than 77% of employees! Do you reach 4170 euros per month? You enter the top 10% of highest salaries!

It is very difficult to get a fair idea of the levels of remuneration in France, the extent of the gaps or quite simply, to know where we are on the salary scale, explains the Observatoire des inequalities, an organization independent publishing, every 2 years, a report on inequalities in France. It is thus to contribute to a better informed debate on the subject that he puts his salary comparator. Available for several years and updated since then, it has already been consulted more than 3 million times.

With your income, are you rich, well-off, average, popular or poor?

For the top 1%, aim for 10,000 euros per month

In 2022, 13% of private sector employees earned less than 1,500 euros per month, net of charges, but before taxes. 2000 euros per month, you are already part of the 55% of best-paid employees. 3000 euros, only 23% of private sector workers earn more than you. 4000 euros, they are only 12%. Finally, to be part of the 1% of best-paid employees, you have to earn nearly 10,000 euros per month (9,973 euros to be precise).

To create its comparator, the Observatory relies on INSEE data, which published its annual barometer of private sector salaries last November. In 2022, the median salarythe one which separates private sector employees into 2 groups of the same weight, was 2091 euros. The average salary is higher: 2630 euros monthly. INSEE also highlighted a gap of 14% between the salaries of men and women.
