(Boursier.com) — To support the strong growth of its customers, particularly in the sports and consumer goods markets, Arkema will increase its worldwide production capacity of Pebax elastomers by approximately 25% by investing in the Serquigny site in France. This investment will make it possible in particular to increase production of the bio-sourced and recyclable Pebax Rnew range and the traditional Pebax range.

This new capability will produce a set of highly specialized grades to meet the growing demand in many demanding applications thanks to the light weight, flexibility and excellent energy return of these materials. These properties are particularly appreciated in sports equipment such as the soles of running shoes, ski boots or technical textiles, in consumer goods such as mobile phones and flexible screens as well as in other markets such as medical.

Derived from renewable castor beans, Pebax Rnew’s advanced, bio-based and recyclable materials offer a sustainable solution to Arkema’s customers who are increasingly oriented towards sustainability and social responsibility. Compared to other elastomers on the market, these materials have an up to 50% lower carbon footprint and are fully recyclable. In addition, this investment, which is scheduled to start in mid-2023, will reduce the site’s water consumption by 25% thanks to process optimization.
