On the program, a meeting with State services and above all a working session with local elected officials. But the priority of this trip is indeed the fight against the circulation of firearms.

Reinforcement of men, reopening of customs posts…

Since the beginning of the year, 23 people have been killed on the island, including 20 by firearm. This surge of violence is a real scourge that affects Martinique, report the political leaders of the department.

A scourge that the Minister of the Interior intends to help eradicate. Gérald Darmanin confirmed to the president of the local authority the sending of reinforcements to fight against these various traffics. This includes considering the reopening of customs posts in the north of the island.

The Minister of the Interior should also very quickly announce a strong measure and a temporary ban on the sale of firearms. The measure will not concern hunters and shooting club licensees.

Fight against drug trafficking

This fight against arms and drug trafficking will be at the center of the Minister’s program this Sunday. He must in particular visit the office of the anti-narcotics office, this specialized antenna responsible in particular for intercepting drug traffickers on board boats transiting through Martinican waters.
