Google announces the implementation of new interoperability between Bard and the different tools that it has been offering for years.
In the race for chatbots launched by the implementation of ChatGPT, for the moment only Google seems to be holding its own with its Bard product. But in the future it could well be considered as more than a simple rival to the creation of OpenAI, thanks to the various Google services that exist today. In fact, the AI, in addition to offering you results from its searches on the Internet, will now be able to search for them for you directly in your personal information.

AI, AI, AI. These two letters have invaded all of the news in 2023, with seemingly endless possibilities. We have seen ChatGPT relieve emergency room congestion or even artificial intelligence at the service of astronauts. However, all these uses are still experimental, unlike chatbots which already have practical use. And it is on this “ use case » which Google currently wants to capitalize on.
The Californian giant has just announced the introduction of “Extensions”, which will now allow it to connect to famous applications such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Maps, YouTube and Google Flight. And thanks to this connection, it will now be possible for the user to ask the AI to directly retrieve specific information from within their private content.
But where does the data go?
There are obviously many applications here. It will thus be possible to ask Bard for summaries of emails that have been sent or specific information stored on the drive, to find a route or even to do a search on available flights. “ This is the first time that a language model truly integrates your personal data », enthused manager Jack Krawczyk.
As for data security, Google assures that it will not be used by the firm to train Bard, and that no human will be able to read it. On the other hand, if the Californian company plans to ask your permission to synchronize the AI with Gmail, Docs and Drive, it will by default authorize the chatbot’s access to YouTube, Google Maps and Flights. If you are interested in this new option, you will also have to be a little patient, as the latter currently only exists in English.
