As the first woman – Dienesch new managing director of the GrazMuseum

In the future, for the first time, a woman will be at the head of the GrazMuseum: Sibylle Dienesch will be the new managing director of Stadtmuseum Graz GmbH – she was able to assert herself against the other candidates at the hearing on Monday.

Sibylle Dienesch, currently Deputy Director of the GrazMuseum, came out on top of the three-stage selection process. She is appointed for an initial period of five years. “I’m looking forward to working together, there are great challenges ahead,” says City Councilor for Culture Günter Riegler (ÖVP) with regard to the difficult budgetary framework and the 900th anniversary of the city of Graz in 2028. “I also congratulate Ms. Dienesch and wish her all the best Success for the tasks to come,” says Finance City Councilor Manfred Eber (KPÖ). The previous managing director Otto Hochreiter will remain in office until the end of the year: “He has managed the GrazMuseum for almost 20 years and has done a great job in the process,” says Riegler a total of four applicants to choose from – three women and one man. “It was important to us that the selection process was carried out professionally, objectively and transparently,” emphasize Riegler and Eber in unison. The application process was based on the new appointments to management positions in the recent past, such as at the Graz Opera, the Schauspielhaus and the Kunsthaus. An external personnel consultancy was commissioned, which drew up a shortlist together with a well-known selection committee.GrazMuseum as a success storyThe GrazMuseum has not only been expanded over the past two decades (GrazMuseum on the Schlossberg, city archive, archeology), the existing buildings have also been extensively renovated and modernized . In addition, positions for new scientific staff were created and restitution research was also carried out. “The GrazMuseum has become a central place for modern historical research, documentation and communication. Special mention should also be made of the research into Jewish life in Graz and the efforts to research the history of the Liebenau camp,” says Riegler.
