Asus presents its Zenbook S13 OLED 2023, a thin and light laptop that does not lose connectivity

The Taiwanese manufacturer Asus has formalized its next high-end 13.3-inch laptop: the Zenbook S 13 Oled (2023). A product touted by the brand as thin, light and durable. All without losing too many USB or HDMI ports.

It is a small template that does not lose its ports. Asus formalized this Thursday, April 20, a new 13.3-inch ultraportable computer model: the 2023 update of its Zenbook S 13 Oled.

A model sold as an ultra thin and light laptop without compromising on its connectivity or its ecological impact, depending on the brand. Asus also claims to have produced its computer “the most environmentally friendly“. We take a look at its characteristics.

Slim body even with full-size HDMI

On the design side, the Zenbook S 13 Oled (2023) takes some risks without radically changing the classic recipe for ultraportables with a MacBook look.

The matte cover of the laptop still has four shiny diagonals, giving a unique look to the Taiwanese product. A top-of-the-range product, the back of the screen and the body are made of magnesium and aluminum, colored in gray or navy blue depending on the version. A very light metal alloy which allows it to limit its weight to 1 kg.

Asus also emphasizes in its communication on a product “designed to achieve carbon neutrality through recycled metals and plastics“, in particular for the black keys of the keyboard or the components of the speakers, says Asus.

A fairly good connection

The 13-inch product has dimensions of 29.6 by 21.6 cm and a thickness of just over a centimeter, which Asus prides itself on, which is delighted to offer complete connectivity despite everything.

There are 2 Thunderbolt 4 compatible USB-C ports and even a large format HDMI port on the left edge, and 1 classic USB port and a 3.5mm audio jack on the right edge. On the other hand, we note the absence of a fingerprint sensor.

Oled and infrared unlocking

On the screen side, Asus has, on the other hand, added a FullHD infrared camera allowing you to unlock your session via Windows Hello. Sensors placed in the discreet space above the screen to house a FullHD camera.

The edges are also quite thin, even if the lower part has a larger space than the others, but which is partly hidden under the keyboard, rising a little once the computer is open. A hinge design already used by Asus.

The 13.3-inch Oled screen offers an image definition of 2880 by 1800, at a ratio of 16:10. Its maximum brightness is capped at 550 cd / m², which could be a little low in certain situations.

Finally, Asus promises very good colorimetry, with a Delta E of less than 1 and a match to DCI-P3 color gamuts of 100%. Data to be verified in a future test.

Next generation performance and standards

The Taiwanese manufacturer mentions two variants of processors integrated into this Zenbook S 13 Oled (2023); an Intel Core i5 1335U or i7 1355U, both from the 13th and latest generation of the American manufacturer (Raptor Lake).

Both of these chips support Intel’s Iris Xe integrated graphics, making it easy to do photo editing or play light video games.

All this is accompanied by RAM options that are not yet specified, but can reach up to 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM. Same goes for PCIe Gen 4 compliant SSD storage up to 1TB.

The Zenbook S 13 Oled (2023) also incorporates the recent Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 standards. All sold of course under Windows 11 in Home or Pro version.

Finally, Asus integrates in this ultraportable a battery with a capacity of 63 Wh, despite its finesse. This is rechargeable by a 65 W brick present in the box. The brand promises14 hours of video streaming“, but we will wait for a complete test to verify these statements.

Zenbook S 13 OLED (2023) price and availability

Announced today, it will however only be available in a few weeks, before the summer, Asus indicating a release “during the 2nd quarter of 2023“.

As for its price, ASUS indicates a recommended retail price of 1800 euros at its partners and on its online store.
