In Australia, Maree Arnold has decided to help her daughter, who has a syndrome preventing her from having children. Never mind, Meagan White’s mother offered to be a surrogate for her and her husband, and gave birth to her grandson on January 13.

Meagan White is a 28-year-old Australian with Rokitansky syndrome or MRKH – from Mayer, Rokitansky, Kuster and Hauser, the names of the doctors who described her – responsible for the fact that she is born without a uterus. In an interview, she told Caters News: “It meant that I could never carry a child, however my ovaries were functioning. I could have a biological child with the help of surrogacy“. When she met Clayde White, who will become her husband, they made this decision to go through surrogacy to have a child.

The couple therefore called on a Canadian surrogate, with whom the embryo transfer worked in December 2019. But after 21 weeks of pregnancy, Meagan and Clayde became disillusioned… the pregnancy had to be terminated. “In March 2020, doctors told us that our baby girl had not developed kidneys and would not be viable.
Devastated, Meagan and Clayde began to grieve their parenthood when Maree, Meagan’s mother, offered to act as surrogate to help them.

A devoted mother and grandmother

At 54, Maree Arnold’s idea seemed absurd, and yet… Although postmenopausal, she was able to allow her uterus to produce an endometrium again thanks to drugs. After three failed embryo transfers, the fourth attempt, in the last burst of hope, was the good one. She was able to carry her grandson for 9 months without incident, all crowned by childbirth.perfect” according to newly-grandmother Maree.

I was obviously older during this pregnancy, and I was a little more tired than when I was last pregnant, 22 years ago. But I was still on my feet and in good shape. […] I felt good. Now that all of this is over I think I’m relieved that it all went so well and I’m amazed at this little human we’ve created.
