At -9 degrees in the snow – neighbors saved pensioners from death by cold

During the night from Sunday to Monday, two men from Enzelsdorf bei Griffen became lifeguards. Markus Modre and Herbert Sauerschnig heard cries for help during the night and went to look for it at -9 degrees without hesitation. In doing so, you saved the life of an 86-year-old pensioner.

Soft cries for help woke Markus Modre on Monday at around 2 a.m. He had only heard her through the open bedroom window, whereupon he informed his neighbor and comrade of the FF Enzelsdorf Herbert Sauerschnig. Without hesitation, the two of them set off by car and met a scantily clad pensioner in the snow about 500 meters from the house. Lifesaver He had no shoes and only a short-sleeved shirt. “We put it in the warm immediately,” says Herbert Sauerschnig about the “Krone”. The man was confused and severely hypothermic. Sauerschnig says: “He was probably wandering around in the cold for more than an hour. Even his wife hadn’t noticed that he had left the house at night! ”The rescue workers then brought the pensioner home after their examination. Without the moral courage of the two lifeguards, the 86-year-old would probably have frozen to death in the snow.
