President of the jury for the international competition of the Series Mania festival, which takes place in Lille until March 25, producer Julia Sinkevych talks about the conflict in her country but also the way in which culture must take its share of the war effort.

She is both the president of the international selection jury and the guest of honor at Séries Mania. Invited in extremis by Laurence Herszberg, general manager of the Lille festival, who had met her several times within the framework of the Odessa International Film Festival, of which she was general delegate, producer Julia Sinkevych made the trip from Ukraine, to come and see the world through series from around the world; but also, above all, to tell us about the war that is taking place right now in his country, and inevitably tints this 2022 edition with a particular color. She answered our questions in Lille, after meeting the members of the jury she chairs, including the singer Yseult, the actress Shira Haas or the writer and director Marc Dugain.

It’s a bit surreal to talk to each other in this context…

Doubly surreal, I would say. The environment here seemed surreal to me when I arrived, and I know that the one in Kyiv will seem just as strange to me when I get back. We adapt. We go out, and we almost get used to it. But I also feel like there are now two versions of me. One is here, the other is there.
