During her general policy statement to the National Assembly on Wednesday, the Prime Minister took care not to mention the Mélenchonists or the nationalists, while advocating “the spirit of dialogue” and “openingof the government in the face ofsuggestions from everyone“.
Whether they are partners of the majority or not, several group presidents were directly quoted during his speech, in allusions to the exchanges that have taken place in recent weeks between the Élysée, Matignon, and the oppositions. The ecologist Julien Bayou, the macronist Aurore Bergé, the communist André Chassaigne … All the representatives of the parliamentary forces were cited, except two: Marine Le Pen, president of the RN group, and Mathilde Panot, her counterpart LFI.
For Macron, RN and LFI “do not register as government parties”
A voluntary oversight, which is in line with the comments made by Emmanuel Macron in his interview with AFP on June 25. The President of the Republic then assured that he wanted to reach out to the representatives of a large political space, going “from Communists to Republicans“. “The French have granted legitimacy to the RN and LFI deputies and these parties have a political formation, added the Head of State. I do not confuse the extremes but by their expression, their positioning (…), these formations do not register as parties of government.»
On Tuesday, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin went even further, calling the RN and LFI deputies “enemies“, with whom the government has “not to discuss, to negotiate.” Unlike parties like the Socialist Party or the Republicans, described as simple “opponentsby the Beauvau tenant. With this speech, Elisabeth Borne therefore also immediately marks her distance from the Insoumis or the RN.
