At warning level 2 – injured: ski tourers carried away by an avalanche

Avalanches in the Murtal district in Styria – and ski tourers were able to free their injured colleague from the masses of snow in the Seckauer Tauern! The 29-year-old from the Graz area was buried.

A group of five ski tourers had used Saturday for their hobby and had climbed from Triebental towards Sonntagskogel in the Seckauer Tauern in the morning. But then the weather conditions changed, so a 29-year-old and a 27-year-old from the Graz area turned around again. On the subsequent descent it happened: the 29-year-old skier fell shortly before half past twelve. The snow cover might not have tolerated that, an avalanche broke off. The man was carried away by the snow masses for 150 meters! And partially buried. His colleague was also recorded, but was able to deploy her avalanche airbag in time, was not buried under the snow and was uninjured. In the meantime, the rest of the group had started the way back and of course noticed the accident. The escorts helped the man who had sustained injuries of indeterminate degree to free himself. He was flown by the rescue helicopter Christophorus 17 to the LKH Kalwang. According to the police, the ski tourers involved were adequately equipped for a ski tour in the alpine terrain, at the time of the avalanche there was avalanche warning level 2 as well as nine rescue workers from the Hohentauern mountain rescue team.
