Hooligans attack Union Berlin bosses
In the run-up to the game between Feyenoord Rotterdam and Union Berlin in the UEFA Conference League, there is a hooligan attack on a delegation from the Bundesliga club. Chairs fly in a bar. One person is taken to the hospital.
A delegation led by Union Berlin President Dirk Zingler was attacked in a bar before the UEFA Conference League game against Feyenoord Rotterdam. This is confirmed by the association ntv.de. One person is said to have been injured in the attack and one person from the group of attackers was arrested. The Rotterdam police told ntv.de that the investigation into the incident was still ongoing. The “Berliner Kurier” reported the incident first.
Around 25 people had gathered in a bar not far from the team hotel on the evening before the away game. These included Zingler and media director Christian Arbeit. “In an incident in a restaurant, chairs and other objects were thrown at several people. A victim was taken to hospital with injuries. The suspects have fled,” wrote the Rotterdam police on Twitter.
The attackers are said to be part of the Dutch club’s hooligan scene. Despite their escape, there was an arrest later in the evening, confirmed the Rotterdam police, who spoke of an “ongoing investigation” when asked by ntv.de.
Union Berlin confirmed the attack to ntv.de. From the “Berlin Courier” published pictures show a devastated bar. The newspaper reports that “some members of the delegation against the projectiles used the chairs as protective screens with presence of mind” and thus prevented more serious injuries.
The operator of the Rotterdam bar, Thijmen van den Ende, confirmed the attacks in the “Dagblad 010”. He said, “We all love this club, don’t we? But demolishing a bar in your own beautiful city isn’t that decent, is it? There were rumors in the group apps that there were fans of Union Berlin sitting here, but in reality it was employees and administration. ”
