Austria – Deliberate Covid infections are increasing in Vorarlberg

Doctors in Austria are shocked: Apparently, many are trying to get a certificate with the help of a consciously induced CoV-2 infection. In many cases, the shot backfires for infected people.

  • In the Austrian state of Vorarlberg, suspected cases of deliberate infections with the Sars-CoV-2 virus are increasing.

  • Doctors warn that this is a game with fire that could be fatal.

  • In addition, an intentionally induced infection is a criminal offense and can be punished with up to three years imprisonment.

The phenomenon is not entirely new: People who absolutely not get vaccinated, but still want to enjoy the benefits of a certificate, are specifically looking for ways to get infected and receive a recovered certificate after the infection. Now, however, the cases are increasing in Austria, as ORF reports: Various specific suspected cases have become known in Vorarlberg, for example.

In circles of vaccination skeptics, there is “a lively exchange” online about where healthy people can find infected people and get the virus. According to the report, it is often people who disregard the quarantine instructions and allow healthy people into their home so that they can “enjoy” an infection.

Every tenth person in the hospital – every hundredth person dies

This is met with total incomprehension among medical professionals. “Young people, who one would think they could get through it without any problems, are in some cases seriously ill and intensely ill, while older people, who in some cases also have other illnesses, can have a milder course. You cannot predict it individually, ”warns Burkard Walla, Vice President of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Physicians.

“It’s a certain form of gamble,” Walla sums up. According to statistics, every tenth infected person ends up in hospital and one percent dies as a result of infection. The statistical risk «do not predict personal fate».

Authorities investigate suspected cases

The Austrian authorities have also got wind of the dangerous practice. Herbert Burtscher, spokesman for the district captains in the state, says: “In such a case, it is clear to me that a report would have to be made to the public prosecutor and the people would then have to answer to the court.” Burtscher states that he has heard of intentional infections himself, but so far no concrete investigations have been made. However, that could change quickly – “if the neighbor tells him himself that he is in quarantine and there is a party”.

One thing is clear: the police have the right to enter the respective house at a prohibited meeting. “Since it is a criminal offense under the penal code, it is clear to me that the police can investigate this suspicion in private homes too,” says Burtscher. Deliberate infection is a criminal offense and can result in high fines or even imprisonment for up to three years.
