Bad news for Tesla: The US traffic safety authority has found defects in two of the electric pioneer's car models. Now the company is supposed to recall tens of thousands of cars.

Problems in safety technology have been found in models made by the electric car manufacturer Tesla in the USA. The road safety authority NHTSA therefore requested the US company in a letter to get 158,000 cars back. According to its own information, the authorities discovered a defect in the on-board computer in these cars. As a result, the reversing camera and other safety devices do not work properly.

According to the NHTSA, the model S sedans from 2012 to 2018 as well as all-terrain vehicles of Model X from 2016 to 2018 are affected by the defect. Tesla is not obliged to comply with the authority's request. If the company does not want to recall the wagons, it must provide the NHTSA with a reason.

The recall request by the supervisory authority comes in the middle of a phase in which Tesla is experiencing an extraordinary boom on the stock market. In the meantime, the company of high-tech pioneer Elon Musk is worth more than its rivals General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Fiat Chrysler and Volkswagen put together, despite the comparatively low production figures on the stock market.

Tesla is currently planning to enter the Indian market. For this purpose, the electrical manufacturer recently registered the company Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited as a branch in Bangalore with the responsible ministry, as a corresponding entry on its website shows. India's Minister of Transport, Nitin Gadkari, recently said that Tesla would begin selling its vehicles in India in 2021 and would consider manufacturing in the country if there was demand. Tesla boss Elon Musk confirmed on Twitter late last year that his company wanted to go to India in 2021.
