Autumn 2020: this is how summer clothing winters properly

Does your wardrobe need more space for autumn sweaters? No problem, with these tips the summer clothes are stored correctly.

With a wistful look, we slowly but surely say goodbye to sandals, tops and summer dresses and welcome booties, cuddly sweaters and knitted dresses to our cloakroom. But what is the best way of wintering our summer fashion?

Lavender and salt against moths and mold

First things first – it may seem obvious, but before summer clothes go away, they should be thoroughly cleaned again. Food scraps, dirt, sweat and flakes of skin are great food for moths and their offspring. The animals prefer natural fibers such as silk. To keep them away from clothing during the autumn and winter months, lavender bags or cedar oil are ideal.

Another thing that moths don't like: restlessness! They prefer silence and darkness. That is why the wintering campaign is ideal for grabbing the vacuum cleaner and swirling around the cabinet and corners thoroughly. Then wipe it with a damp cloth and let it dry well – done.

There are two options for storage: Either the attic or the cellar. In the latter, there is a risk that the beloved clothes will pull moisture and become moldy. It is therefore best to store it on the clothes hanger (no folds), to which a bag of salt is attached. The reason: salt binds moisture.

Trick for more space

If you have a problem with storage space, you can use this special trick: Vacuum bags not only save a lot of space, they are also ideal for storing insensitive clothing and accessories and protect against dust and moths. However, it is particularly important that the parts are really dry before they are vacuum-sealed, otherwise mold has an easy time.
