autumn vegetables sold at Leclerc contaminated by pesticides, do not eat them

Today, Rappel Conso alerted of a withdrawal of organic butternut distributed in national Leclerc brands, following the detection of traces of a pesticide.

With the arrival of autumn, butternut has taken pride of place on our plates. However, RappelConso draws our attention to a specific batch of these squashes, particularly those sold under the Bio Village brand at E.Leclerc.

The warning issued by RappelConso directly concerns butternut squash from the Bio Village brand, the flagship brand for organic products of the Leclerc chain. These squashes, available in each Leclerc store in the regioncan be identified using the following details:

*UPC code: 3564707126984
* Batch number: COP J followed by two numbers, with the conditioner sign EMB 29259L
* Health marking: EMB 29259L

Note that these squashes were on sale from October 10, 2023 to October 27, 2023, when they were removed from the shelves.

The threat of chlordane

This urgent recall is due to the detection of traces of an unauthorized pesticide, chlordane. This compound, naturally absent from our environment, is a tenacious organic pollutant. HHistorically used as an insecticide, particularly against termites, its presence is reported by the Ministry of the Environment. The risks for human health should not be neglected: chlordane can cause nervous, digestive and hepatic disorders, particularly when exposure reaches high levels.

Faced with this alert, RappelConso encourages consumers to immediately stop consuming the butternuts concerned. If you have purchased any, it is best to return them to your nearest Leclerc store. To reassure its customers, the brand has launched a reimbursement process which will remain in effect until November 15, 2023.
