In the case of Disney/Marvel, we were able to learn a little more about Avengers 5, including confirmation and clarification on the next big villain.
Avengers 5, it’s confirmed
We were therefore able to learn that the highly anticipated Avengers 5 film is still scheduled for May 1, 2026. This is rather good news when we know to what extent Marvel has been shaking up a lot of things for several months in order to improve quality of his productions. As we recall, Bob Iger, president of Disney, wants to favor quality over quantity. A paradigm shift that should be felt in the years to come, notably with Deadpool 3 and the new Daredevil series. The other confirmation (for now) is that the film still carries the name The Kang Dynasty. This isn’t just a detail, as it gives some big hints about what Disney is about to do. For a time, following the legal cases of Jonathan Majors, accused of domestic violence, Marvel had considered changing the villain. According to several rumors, this was clearly a project on the table. Subsequently, last January, we were able to learn that the company was probably going to recast the character instead. Colman Domingo was then approached (again according to rumors) for the role. Well, obviously, the choice to change the actor was made in order to maintain Kang as the big bad. In any case, it would have been very difficult to justify the disappearance of such a villain from the MCU without going through the multiverse.
A still unclear future and a choice that divides
Although Kang’s precise involvement in Loki’s second season and future Avengers films remains unclear, this recent hint seems to ease some concerns among fans. Indeed, many people praise Domingo’s abilities and charisma. Others, however, prefer to consider different actors or question the choice of Kang as the main antagonist. Many believe that Doctor Doom would also have a place to take over the throne of the main antagonists. He is one of Marvel’s most iconic villains, but also one of the most powerful, especially when he gains the powers of the Beyonder.
Some fans are all the more disappointed since the name of Mads Mikkelsen has been circulating for some time to play the character. Kang’s choice is therefore very divisive.
