Avengers: “Rumors say he’s going to return”… What if this big bad guy reappeared in the Marvel saga?

Screening “Dune 2” on February 28, Josh Brolin discusses rumors about a possible return of the big bad Thanos in the MCU.

In cinema, and even more so in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the dead never really stay dead (ask Loki what he thinks). And it is undoubtedly for this reason that ComicBook.com saw fit to take advantage of the promotion of Dune 2 to talk to Josh Brolin… about Thanos.

Unanimously considered the best villain in the MCU, the character had been teased since the end of the first Avengers, before opposing the heroes in Infinity War then Endgame, where he perished thanks to the sacrifice of Tony Stark.

His corpse was later seen again in one of the alternate realities of Doctor Strange 2, then the character appeared in two episodes of the animated series What If…?.

And this while Marvel Studios is struggling to launch Thanos’ successor, Kang the Conqueror, who should change his face after the dismissal of his interpreter Jonathan Majors, convicted of assault and harassment towards his former girlfriend.

Could Kevin Feige be tempted to give his baby a helping hand by bringing back the Titan, thanks to the magic of the multiverse?

“I heard, thanks to rumors in the corridor, that they are going to bring him back”replies Josh Brolin to ComicBook.com. “And then there’s the What If…? series, where it’s a different Thanos. But I don’t know if they’re going to bring him back into the Marvel world, just like I didn’t know that he was the most killed villain in the universe. We learn about it every day.”

Hawkeye also back?

So don’t count on the actor to make shocking revelations. Or even say if he is for Thanos to make his return. Because he makes it clear that, despite the rumors he hears, he doesn’t seem convinced that the Titan is about to return.

Even in Secret Wars, the sixth Avengers film which will bring several parallel worlds into collision, allowing for more cameos.

If he were to return, Thanos could cross paths with a former adversary: a year after his serious accident with a snowplow, Jeremy Renner says he is strong enough to resume his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“All these people came to my bedside and were by my side throughout my recovery”he declares to Entertainment Tonight. “So if they want me, they can have me.”
