Award procedure – hunting cause around Siegfried Wolf becomes a thriller

The award of the community hunt in Merkendorf in Bad Gleichenberg in south-east Styria is becoming more and more of a tricky crime thriller. For 20 years, the millionaire entrepreneur Siegfried Wolf was the tenant, now someone else should come into play – but there is resistance to this. The community is now even moving to the state administrative court.

Last year, the community hunt in Merkendorf was reassigned. After 20 years, Siegfried Wolf did not get a chance, another bidder submitted a higher offer. But there was resistance: more than a third of the property owners objected in favor of Wolf, who – at least officially – accepts the decision against him. The municipal council dealt with the matter in July, but stood by its decision against Wolf. But that was not the end of the story. The cause went to the district authority. And this has now failed the approval, as reported by SPÖ Deputy Mayor Werner Jogl. “An insult to the municipal council” The reason: The municipal council would not have dealt enough with the objections because there were only two requests to speak on this agenda item. For Jogl incomprehensible: “Everything is discussed in advance in the municipal board. Later, the faction leaders go through all the points again with the head of department and discuss them in their factions. Otherwise, municipal council meetings would last until 6 a.m..” The authority’s point of view was “an insult to the municipal council.” This decision by the district administration makes it clear: the cause will drag on even more, because the municipality, which does not have one Error is aware, now wants to go to the state administrative court. Rather rare in Bad Gleichenberg: all factions pull together. It remains to be seen whether they will ultimately have the upper hand or whether Siegfried Wolf’s supporters will have the upper hand.
