Axa reshuffles its management committee before the announcement of a new strategic plan


PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–The insurer Axa announced on Tuesday a series of changes at its head with the aim of presenting a new strategic plan at the start of next year which should take over from the “Driving Progress 2023” roadmap.

“The year 2023 is a pivotal year for Axa. It marks the end of our ‘Driving Progress’ plan, whose financial objectives we expect to exceed, and precedes the launch of a new strategic cycle for the next three years”, commented Thomas Buberl, the general manager of Axa, quoted in a press release.

With this in mind, the group is revamping its management committee. Georges Desvaux, the current director of strategy, Antimo Perretta, the general manager for Europe and Latin America as well as Gordon Watson, named non-executive chairman Asia, are preparing to leave. They will be replaced by Guillaume Borie, Hassan El-Shabrawishi, Nancy Bewlay, Françoise Gilles and Anu Venkataraman.

Current Deputy Managing Director of Axa France, Guillaume Borie has been appointed Managing Director of this entity. Hassan El-Shabrawishi, Managing Director Africa, becomes Managing Director International Markets. They will report directly to Axa’s CEO, Thomas Buberl.

Nancy Bewlay moves from the management of Axa XL Réassurance to the position of director of underwriting of the group, Françoise Gilles is appointed director of risks while she was piloting the strategy of Axa Asia until now. Finally, Anu Venkataraman becomes director of strategy and retains his position as head of investor relations. All three will report to Frédéric de Courtois, the deputy managing director, notably in charge of finance.

Renaud Guidée, until now risk director, replaces Nancy Bewlay at the head of Axa XL Réassurance.

“This renewal demonstrates the richness and diversity of Axa’s internal talents. It also gives us the opportunity to develop a certain number of scopes and functions in order to prepare the group for the implementation of our new strategic ambition. and its long-term challenges”, added Thomas Buberl.
