Babylon Berlin: Season three promises a lot of drama

The wait is over: The third season of the German hit series "Babylon Berlin" celebrates its free TV premiere in the first. Drama is guaranteed.

After the Sky premiere in the spring, the free TV broadcast of the third season of the successful German series "Babylon Berlin" will finally follow. Are Charlotte (Liv Lisa Fries, 29) and Gereon (Volker Bruch, 40) getting closer? Who murders in the film industry? And will all of the characters survive? That'll be revealed in advance: Not all cliffhangers from the end of the second season will be resolved in the new twelve episodes. But the season finale makes you want more – and again leaves some questions unanswered.

Attention, the following passages contain spoilers from the third season "Babylon Berlin"!

Murder series in the film industry

The focus of the third season is a criminal case. A film is being made in which the Armenian (Misel Maticevic, 50), whose name is Edgar Kasabian, and his wife, Esther Kasabian (Meret Becker, 51), are involved. The mysterious Walter Weintraub (Ronald Zehrfeld, 43) also joins them. During the filming, the leading actress suddenly dies and that is not the only murder. But who is responsible for the killing? Weintraub comes under suspicion.

Detective Inspector Gereon Rath (Volker Bruch) not only has to solve a delicate series of murders, he also has to struggle with private problems and even ends up in the hospital. He moves further and further away from his loved one, Helga (Hannah Herzsprung, 39), who takes refuge in the arms of entrepreneur Alfred Nyssen (Lars Eidinger, 44), who uses the stock market crash in 1929 to his advantage. However, Helga's attention to Nyssen alienates her from her son Moritz. His relationship with Gereon is getting better. But the boy also turns to the Hitler Youth.

Gereon's therapist (Jens Harzer, 48), who revealed himself to be his brother Anno Rath, who was believed to be dead, is also continuing his mischief. The extent to which he influences Gereon and his psyche remains somewhat unclear. In a very disturbing scene with a medium, he appears as a police helper. What are his plans actually?

Charlotte is fighting on several fronts

Charlotte Richter (Liv Lisa Fries) is now allowed to work at Rath's side as a detective assistant and has to constantly prove herself in the male-dominated industry. Women on the homicide squad, that doesn't go down well with all colleagues – and it almost costs them their lives. Almost doggedly, she continues to worry about her sisters, but that too is anything but smooth. Once again, she dives into the seedy red-light district to make money.

It's no secret that Charlotte has feelings for Gereon. The Commissioner makes it clear that he is also more than friendly to his colleague. A passionate kiss occurs at a party. But this doesn't seem to be the beginning of a love story. Will Charlotte tell Gereon what happened to Helga's unborn child?

Charlotte is also fighting for the life of her friend Greta Overbeck (Leonie Benesch, 29), who is known to be in jail for the assassination attempt on Government Councilor August Benda (Matthias Brandt, 59). Greta initially refuses any support. When a lawyer finally takes her case and she still agrees, a dramatic race against time begins.

Gottfried Wendt as a puller

The resolution of the series of murders is already indicated in the course of the investigation and finally culminates in a gripping showdown in which the lives of some police officers are in danger. Excitement is guaranteed.

The seedy Gottfried Wendt (Benno Fürmann, 48), however, has his fingers in the game everywhere and pursues his own goals. He literally walks over corpses and does not shy away from collateral damage in his own ranks. Can Charlotte and Gereon convict him? Wendt gets a juicy damper, but he will hardly give up …
