Back Market opens 150 positions in Bordeaux, after a major fundraising

In addition to these newcomers, several employees who have settled…

In addition to these newcomers, several employees previously based in Paris took the LGV Atlantique to reach Bordeaux. And not least, since the director of human resources (HRD), Albane Bressole-Chataigner, the director of operations, Raoul Costa de Beauregard, and even the chairman and CEO, Thibaud Hug de Larauze, now work in Gironde. Back Market’s headquarters remain in Paris, however, although discussions to legally move it to Paris are underway.

Innovative premises

The fact remains that to welcome all this new world, the unicorn (young company valued at more than a billion dollars without being listed on the stock market, editor’s note) has put the dishes in the big ones. Despite a few layers of carpet still missing and the sounds of drills still present, the Bordeaux premises of Back Market are beginning to resemble the image that the company wants to give itself: innovative and respectful of the environment. “Like the products we sell, all refurbished, all of our facilities are designed with recycled materials”, smiles Albane, the HRD, while showing people around.

In the building that has just been delivered, the atmosphere is relaxed. The space is decorated with plants, staggered paintings or messages in fluorescent letters. Here and there you come across a ping-pong table, a chess board, a games console… The meeting rooms are decked out with quirky names related to Bordeaux, such as “Gavé” or “Péju”. A meditation space, a gym and even an “agora”, where all the staff meet each month to reward projects and welcome the latest arrivals.

“Our “culture” team has designed these facilities and organizes games and events for the “Back Makers”, as our employees are called”, points out Albane. “Everything has been thought out to make people want to return to the office after the pandemic. May their workplace be almost as pleasant as their home. »

$5.1 billion

Close to the mode of operation of many young companies, the Back Market method nevertheless continues to impress. The unicorn carried out a fundraising of 450 million euros on January 11, in which Sprints Capital, which focuses on companies in the circular economy, participated. Back Market boasts today of being valued at 5.1 billion euros. A fundraiser that will allow Back Market, present in 16 countries, to further develop on the American and Asian markets.

“We already had the objective of transferring elements from Paris to Bordeaux”

A globalization that passes, according to the leaders, through a certain decentralization. Hence more or less recent installations in Barcelona, Berlin and New York and planned openings in Tokyo and Hong Kong. And a Bordeaux development. “We already had the objective of transferring elements from Paris to Bordeaux, which historically hosted our customer service, explains Albane. The Covid has shown that we can work together while being at a distance. The pandemic has also prompted many of our Parisian employees to seek a larger and quieter place to live. »

Any type of profile sought

On the strength of its new fundraising, Back Market is therefore recruiting 400 people worldwide, including 150 in Bordeaux. Girondin positions open in finance, human resources, marketing and logistics. But it is above all developers who are expected in Bordeaux and 60% of recruitment concerns the IT sector. Logic for a website.
