bad news for consumers 10 days after the end of the regulated tariff

The new price quoted by the Energy Regulation Commission, 10 days after the abolition of the regulated gas tariff, shows an increase in the price per kilowatt hour. This reference amount should help consumers to choose a possible new supplier.

The regulated gas sales tariff (TRVG) was irreversibly abolished on June 30, 2023. From now on, consumers can rely on the Energy Regulation Commission (CRE) and its price to choose the best contract , from the cheapest supplier. After June and July, this price list for the month of August was published on Monday. It gives a reasonable subscription amount and a reference kilowatt-hour price.

For the month of July, CRE recommended that an offer with a price of 0.08195 euro per KWh (heating) and 0.10488 euro per KWh (hot water and cooking) is acceptable. For the month of August, the price deemed reasonable is 0.08406 euro per KWh (heating) and 0.10700 per KWh (hot water and cooking).

A rising price

Consequently, and as detailed in the table below, between July and August 2023, the variable portion excluding taxes (HT) of a typical cooking/hot water and heating consumer increases by €1.76/MWh taking into account the evolution of prices on the natural gas wholesale market, writes the CRE in its press release.

By way of comparison, since July 1, therefore, customers of Engie’s Passerelle offer, to which former customers at the regulated tariff have been switched who have not chosen a new offer, pay 0.10818 euros including tax for small households consuming up to 3999 kilowatt hours (KWh) per year, and between 0.08248 and 0.08620 for those whose needs are higher.

But this contract offered by Engie as Avantage gaz from EDF or Speciale Gaz from TotalEnergies, which promises a 10% discount on the kilowatt hour, is likely to increase in August since it follows variations in the reference price.

Engie, TotalEnergies… Here are the cheapest offers since the end of the regulated gas tariff

Ct subscription, CRE presents an annual price of between 102.94 euros and 257.18 euros per year. A stable amount between July and August which corresponds to a few cents of euros at the prices applied by Engie for its Passerelle offer.
