Will the vaccination turbo finally ignite soon in Switzerland? While everyone over the age of 18 is vaccinated in the canton of Vaud, BAG director Anne Lévy is also optimistic for the boys throughout Switzerland. All young people should be able to be vaccinated from summer onwards.
“We are doing everything we can to ensure that children and adolescents can be vaccinated as soon as possible,” Lévy said in an interview with the CH Media newspapers. Sufficient vaccination doses have been planned for it.
Approval pending
However, this only works if approval comes. After any approval by Swissmedic, a recommendation from the Federal Commission for Vaccination Issues (Ekif) is necessary before a vaccine can be used in children and adolescents.
“Swissmedic makes the approval decision on vaccinations for children and adolescents independently,” says Lévy. The federal scientific Covid-19 task force advises vaccinating children and adolescents as soon as vaccines are approved for them.
«Optimistic» to stick to the schedule
Planning should be geared towards vaccinating 12 to 16 year olds from July and children under twelve from the end of the year. In the interview, Lévy said she was “optimistic that we will be able to keep to our schedule, although we have always said that it depends on the deliveries and the inoculation by the cantons.”
So far, according to Lévy, the BAG has concluded contracts for the delivery of 35 million vaccine doses. These will be delivered this year, said Lévy. If necessary, some of the deliveries can be postponed to the coming year. (SDA)
