People who have been boosted can also become infected with the corona virus. The third vaccination apparently provides effective protection against severe courses, as new figures from the Federal Office of Public Health show.

  • By Monday, the BAG had recorded 451 hospitalizations after three vaccinations.

  • No previous illness was diagnosed in eleven people.

  • 406 of the 451 hospitalized are over 60 years old.

Booster vaccinations have been given in many cantons in Switzerland since November: first to those over 65, since the beginning of December for everyone over 16 who would like to do so. Current figures from the Federal Office of Public Health now show how well the booster protects against hospitalization: by January 10, the FOPH recorded a total of 451 hospitalizations despite three vaccinations. Only eleven people who had no previous illness ended up in hospital after being vaccinated three times. In 19 people there was no information about possible previous illnesses.

A look at the age distribution shows: of the 451 people, 406 were over 60 years old, 45 people were 59 or younger. Only four people under the age of 60 without previous illnesses had to be hospitalized.

Over 2.5 million boosted

Christoph Berger, President of the Federal Commission for Vaccination Issues, is delighted with these figures: “If we consider that over two and a half million Swiss people have already received the booster, 451 hospitalizations are very few.” It should also be noted that many patients are hospitalized with Corona, but not necessarily because of Corona.

The vaccination boss is also not surprised that the number of those hospitalized without previous illnesses is very low – it shows how well the boosted are now protected. In addition, they are not only protected from hospitalization, but only pass the virus on to a minimal extent in the short term. The economy is therefore calling for the measures to be relaxed.
