Barbara Pompili on coal-fired power plants still in operation: “this is only 2% of electricity consumption in France”

Invited by Jean-Pierre Elkabbach in Repères, the Minister for Ecological Transition Barbara Pompili spoke about the coal-fired power stations still in operation in France.

“There are already two that are closed. The Gardanne (Bouches-du-Rhône) and Le Havre (Seine-Maritime) power plants will not reopen,” confirmed Barbara Pompili.

“We still have two potentially usable plants,” said the minister. Namely that of Cordemais (Loire-Atlantique) which is currently in service and that of Saint-Avold (Moselle) which is stopped but which could resume its activity “if necessary”.

“I remind you once again that we are on 2% of electricity consumption in France. It’s nothing,” she added, in response to criticism of the use of coal-fired power plants in the French energy mix.
