Are you still looking for good resolutions? How about just not doing a few things anymore. Our beauty editor Friederike reveals what’s on her not-to-do list for 2022.

Quit Smoking, Do More Exercise, or Save Every Month? Good resolutions don’t have to be that strenuous, we can start very small – for example with our daily beauty routine. There is no way I will do these five things in 2022. Okay, at least I’ll try …

Product roulette

In my job I try out a lot of different products – be it skincare, hair care or make-up. That’s why I often tend to change my routines too often, sometimes even using different products every week (at least with my hair routine and makeup). Hoping to find THE ultimate product for me at some point. But I can’t do that at all if I don’t give anyone the chance to convince myself. Therefore: choose products carefully and use them for at least four weeks at a time. Then the first effects should show up and I have gained an impression.

Scratch pimples

Admit it – you do too. And yes, my beautician speaks to me every time I couldn’t keep my fingers on my face from an uninvited guest. Of course I know this is absolutely counterproductive. Therefore, it is better to treat impurities and pimples with products that have decongestant and anti-inflammatory effects – in the end you will have more of them.

Join every trend

Retinol, AHA, Bakuchiol – have you ever tried everything? Me too! And that’s exactly what I don’t want to do again next year. I often get tricked into believing that I need every trending ingredient. But I don’t do that. Make a conscious choice of what you put on your face – and if you are unsure, you can get advice from a beautician or simply do your own research. But the fact is: too much is just too much. It goes without saying that the skin is freaking out. I would do it too …

Let hair air dry

I can say for myself: 2021 was the year in which I completely revolutionized my hair routine. With things that are actually totally obvious. For example, I’ve stopped letting my hair air dry and ALWAYS blow-drying and styling it instead. My hair structure is naturally wavy with a lot of frizz. Do you think now that blow-drying is much more damaging to your hair than air-drying? Not correct! Allowing your hair to air dry takes a lot of time. The longer the hair is wet, the more the hair rind swells and breaks. Sure, both variants have advantages and disadvantages. But I’ll probably never let them air dry again – unless I’m on the beach …

Tons of dry shampoo

Speaking of hair, I had extreme scalp problems in 2021. I can’t pin it to one thing, but I think dry shampoo, among other things, is the culprit. Because whenever I had the feeling that my hair felt strange or didn’t smell fresh anymore, I had to use dry shampoo. In the meantime I have extremely reduced my consumption and got my scalp under control again. Because let’s be honest: Isn’t it better to just wash your hair than to smack your head with a half load of dry shampoo on the seventh day as a result? I think so!
