SFR fiber customer, a couple living in the Channel has not had access to fixed Internet for months, because of a torn wire. He has since had to make do with a simple 4G box.

The Maries, who have not had fixed Internet for more than a year, can’t take it anymore. While they were living in peace and quietly enjoying their SFR fiber optic subscription, Michèle and Emmanuel are running behind multiple actors who have been passing the buck in the blame game for more than a year. In the meantime, the couple no longer benefits from optical fiber. But how did we get there?

Technicians who never came to repair the fiber

It all started with a broken pole, in March 2023, which allowed the wire connecting the Marie to the fiber to cross the road from Périers, to Carentan in the Manche. Things got worse when, on June 12 of the same year, a tractor pulled out the dangling wire. Since then, it has been rolled up in the courtyard of the couple’s home, who are losing patience.

It was planned that in June, technicians would go on site to repair the anomaly and calm the legitimate frustration of Emmanuel and Michèle Marie. But they never came. In the meantime, and not without having lodged a complaint several times, injured customers must make do with a small 4G box provided by the operator.

The Maries may multiply the reminders, nothing changes, and the actors pass the buck, since the very first report to Manche Fiber (the public initiative network which ensures the maintenance of the public network). Because there is work to be done, and no one seems to want to take on the financial burden.

A fixed Internet outage that penalizes all members of the family

Obviously, the Maries have had to adapt in recent months, in particular by taking out quite expensive telephone subscriptions. Not to mention the fact that reparation is still pending, and that it penalizes the entire family. The spouses sometimes have to take time off work for the technicians who deign to make the trip.

The last visit dates back to January 26, 2024. That day, a technician came without knowing how to repair the installation. The previous trips, on November 6, 2023 and January 16, 2024, each time by subcontractors, were unsuccessful.

We were talking about the Marie family, and for good reason. They often have difficulty carrying out their online procedures, due to a shaky mobile connection. Symbol of these difficulties, the son, who browses Parcoursup, cannot access the desired schools. The wait becomes quite interminable.
