Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics: a journalist grabbed live by a zealous security guard

This Friday, February 4 during the opening of the Beijing Olympics, a Dutch journalist was interrupted in full live by a security guard.

The vagaries of live have raged again. While live from the Beijing Olympics to cover the opening this Friday, February 4, Sjoerd den Daas, a Dutch journalist, was violently interrupted by a Chinese security guard.

The journalist was thus live and was speaking to his colleague, who was present on the set of the NOS channel. The security guard therefore did not want the journalist to continue his duplex and prevented him from working by forcing him away from the camera and pulling him back.

“This is increasingly becoming a daily reality for journalists in China”

Confused, the journalist present on the set took over, and the journalist in China was able to finish his duplex later. The channel decided to circulate this incident by circulating this video on Twitter while speaking out on the subject of media censorship in China: “This is increasingly becoming a daily reality for journalists in China” tweeted the channel.

According to the Huffpost American which quoted the AP agency, the International Olympic Committee reconsidered this action and judged that the agent had shown “too zealous”. IOC spokesperson Mark Adams also spoke on Channel News Asia saying he thought the case was “isolated” and the fruit of “unfortunate circumstances”. He indeed said: These things happen and I think it’s an isolated case. I hope it’s unique and we assure you that you can continue your work.”
