An employee of the security service discovered the damage on Tuesday afternoon, the Berlin police said on Wednesday. The police state protection of the State Criminal Police Office took over the further investigations.
The memorial, which opened in 2005, is the central Holocaust memorial in Germany. Up to six million Jewish victims are to be commemorated here. There has been repeated damage to property in the past, and last year a stele had to be completely replaced in such a case.
