Senator Bernie Sanders became an Internet hype with his knitted mittens at Joe Biden's Inauguration. Now he's responding to his meme.

Senator Bernie Sanders (79) in olive parkers and knitted mittens – so he attended the inauguration of the new US President Joe Biden (78) on Wednesday in front of the Capitol in Washington, D.C. A photo of him in a casual look in the midst of the elegantly dressed event participants quickly became an Internet hype. Now he reacted to his meme on the talk show "Late Night With Seth Meyers".

"I just sat there, tried to keep warm and watched what was happening in front of me," explained Sanders, completely unimpressed. His employees showed him dozens of the photo montages, he confirmed with a laugh. He then told the host that the best part of the hype was the interest it received in the maker of the mittens. He said Jen Ellis, a Vermont teacher and part-time seamstress, was absolutely "overwhelmed" by the onslaught of potential clients.
