  • Miranda and Che Diaz get closer in episode 3 of “And Just Like That”.
  • According to the series creators, Miranda feels like her life is stagnating.
  • According to the authors, free spirit Che Diaz exerts a magnetic attraction on Miranda.

In the 3rd episode of “And Just Like That” the characters from “Sex and the City” slowly but surely break new ground. While Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) deals with her heartbreaking loss in a very unique way, Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) tries something completely new in the new episode.

What happened? First, in an interview with Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda asks herself, whether Steve (David Eigenberg) and she are still a couple at all. Because they haven’t had sex in years. Then the three friends attend a stand-up performance by comedian and podcaster Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez). Che talks about embracing change in her stage program and also tells her very personal coming-out story.

This seems to be triggering something in Miranda. After Carrie and Charlotte drive away, Miranda goes to the aftershow party. There she quickly meets Che. Miranda compares herself to a robot that routinely fulfills its functions.

Che then blows marijuana smoke into her mouth, the lips of the two “And Just Like That” figures coming very close. The audience cannot (yet) see how the evening ends.

The “And Just Like That” writers on changes in Miranda

The authors of “And Just Like That” confirm to the US website TVLine that Miranda is rumbling. “Miranda feels that her life is stagnating”, reveals Julie Rottenberg, a “Sex and the City” veteran who wrote the script for the third episode.

Showrunner Michael Patrick King agrees. According to him, Miranda feels “trapped” in her current life situation. Steve would have finally married her because she was pregnant. The revival season of “And Just Like That” would now be all about changes for Miranda.

Che Diaz is a magnet for Miranda

In the interview, the two authors also reflect on Miranda’s development in “Sex and the City” so far. She was always a bit of an outsider, the least successful of the 4 friends when it came to dating, and who was also always the most angry at society.

The encounter with Che has evidently triggered something in her. Che is an “incredibly strong, charismatic vibration”, says showrunner Michael Patrick King. “Everyone would be attracted to her.” How it goes on in “And Just Like That” will be revealed in episode 4, which will be released in Germany on December 23, 2021 on Sky.
