Big Heart – The whole country lends a hand to help the victims

More and more rockets are falling, more and more women and children are fleeing the war zone – the situation in Ukraine and at the borders is getting worse. In Burgenland, however, the preparations for today’s large-scale collection of relief supplies are in full swing, with strong support from our fire brigades.

Collection will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. today. “The relief supplies can be handed over to the local fire brigades that accompany the campaign,” says the country house in Eisenstadt. The list of participating fire brigades and further information can be found at www.burgenland.at/burgenland-hilft. Help as many as possible “We want to help as many innocent people as possible who are in need,” says Governor Hans Peter Doskozil. Burgenlanders who want to make quarters available can call the hotline 02682/65933 1380. The private initiative of the project manager Andreas Tomek from Trausdorf, organized in cooperation with the local elementary school, is also enthusiastically supported from many quarters. The arc spans from the Salvator pharmacy of the Müntz family in Eisenstadt, which donated hygiene material and bandages, to the Vöslauer company, which supplied drinking water. Vehicles for the transport are provided by the Autohaus Wtritt dealership, and the Ternitz fire brigade (Lower Austria) is contributing three VW buses with trailers. Two 40-ton trucks “The willingness to help is enormous. A big thank you to everyone,” explains Tomek. Most recently, he was on the road with relief supplies for the crisis region last Tuesday. “Today a bus starts, on Monday two 40-ton trucks drive off,” says the professional organizer. The destination is the camp near Tiszabécs on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border. “Many refugee children are there without parents. The fathers are at the front, the mothers can’t be found,” says Tomek, horrified. His commitment and that of his wife Ines are correspondingly great in order to bring the children at least mattresses to sleep on and other urgently needed things: “We try to help everywhere.”
