Red Bull and Verstappen extend contract

Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen still wants to achieve a lot with his Red Bull team. He wants to be world champion as often as possible. Therefore, the contract extension confirmed today until 2028 is only logical. Team boss Christian Horner also thinks it’s a “real statement”.

Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen will continue to hunt for titles in the Red Bull in the coming years. The 24-year-old has extended his contract, which runs until 2023, by another five years and is moving up the salary bracket to his World Cup rival Lewis Hamilton. The lucrative deal is said to guarantee Verstappen between 40 and 50 million euros annually.

Red Bull confirmed the agreement, but did not give any figures. “I love this team and the last year has been just amazing. Our goal since we came together in 2016 has been to win the championship and we’ve done that, so now it’s about keeping the number one on the car for the long term “said Verstappen

Team boss Christian Horner praised Verstappen’s signature as a “real statement” from the “best driver” and added: “Our immediate focus is on keeping Max’s world title, but this contract also shows that it is part of the long-term plan of the team. ”

Verstappen had already expressed his desire to stay at Red Bull after the controversial 2021 season finale in Abu Dhabi. “There is no reason to say goodbye. I want to drive for this team for a long time,” Verstappen said after the spectacular World Cup final. At that time, the Dutchman was able to overtake Lewis Hamilton in a chaotic race on the last lap. The controversy surrounding an unusual interpretation of the rules by the race management had led to upheavals that even made Hamilton’s Formula 1 withdrawal seem possible for a short time.

The Dutchman Verstappen has been driving in Formula 1 since 2015. He has been in the Red Bull cockpit since 2016. Since then, Verstappen has won 20 races, last year he celebrated his first title win.
