Bill Cosby: Comedian is not released despite the Corona crisis

Despite his old age and the associated particular risk of coronavirus, Bill Cosby (82) must remain in prison, according to US media reports. The comedian and actor is currently serving a three to ten year sentence in the US state of Pennsylvania. Cosby had been convicted of sex offenders in the fall of 2018, which is why he is "out of the question for a governor pardon," a spokeswoman for the responsible prison agency "USA Today" confirmed.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, 71, issued a regulation in April for a temporary pardon of particularly vulnerable and non-violent prisoners. Around 1,500 to 1,800 inmates could be released. "The news was shocking to all of us, as sources around Governor Wolf told us that Mr. Cosby would benefit directly from the ordinance," said a comedian spokesman. And further: "Mr. Cosby has not been sentenced to death," exposing him to the virus like this, however, feels "as if Pennsylvania wanted to execute Mr. Cosby."

Previous operations

Not only is Cosby in a particularly vulnerable age group, two "life-sustaining" operations are said to have been carried out on him a few months ago, as the British "Daily Mail" said, citing a spokesman for the comedian.

The 82-year-old was operated on the right and left carotid artery. Deposits had blocked up to 90 percent of the arteries. The operations were carried out last autumn to minimize the risk of a heart or stroke.
