Many motorists have been on the roads since Thursday, December 22. The peak of traffic jams was expected this Friday, December 23 afternoon.
Red alert on the roads of Île-de-France Friday, December 23. Bison Futé indicates that traffic has been very difficult since 10 a.m. on the Ile-de-France roads on the eve of Christmas. The strike on the French rail network and the ensuing train cancellations contribute to road congestion. According to the authorities, the peak of traffic was to be in the afternoon, between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The roads were busy from Thursday, December 22, with the first departures to go Christmas Eve in the provinces combined with traditional journeys between home and work. The traffic peak was to be reached this Friday around 6 p.m., when a peak of 430 kilometers of accumulated traffic jams was expected in the Paris region. It was advisable to avoid these times and leave later in the evening to avoid slowdowns.
Consulted at the end of the day, the Sytadin site noted, in Île-de-France, particularly heavy traffic between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., beyond the levels “exceptionalusually observed. The peak of traffic jams was reached around 5 p.m., with 375 kilometers. Since then, the level of congestion has dropped, falling back below the 325 kilometer mark – a levelusual– shortly after 6 p.m.
Elsewhere in France, no particular difficulties were announced on December 22 and 23. As for the next two days, December 24 and 25, when all the roads in France will be green.
New congestion should appear on Monday December 26 in the Île-de-France region, in particular on the A10, A6 and A13 motorways. Bison Futé raises its alert level to orange. Again, traffic jams should concentrate in the afternoon.
