Bitkom President Achim Berg: “Need a big bang to solve bureaucracy”

Bitkom President Achim Berg is waiting for the big bang. This is the only way to overcome the “bureaucratization infarction” in terms of digitization. Achim Berg explains why Germany needs a beta mode in the new episode of “So techt Deutschland”.

Achim Berg’s frustration with the traffic light government’s performance so far in terms of digitization is noticeable. After a long start, there was a digital strategy in August, “which isn’t that bad, but nothing happened,” complained the president of the Bitkom digital association. “I think we are world market leaders in political slowness”.

If he wished for something, it would be a nationwide uniform digital ID. An ID that is not only there for the administrative authorities, but also for the public sector and industry. “What I wish for is not only that I can authenticate myself via a digital ID, but that I can also carry my driver’s license, ID card and all that on my cell phone or have it in my wallet,” says Berg in the ntv podcast. This is how Germany works”.

16 federal states, more than 900 federal authorities and almost 11,000 municipalities caused a “bureaucratization infarction”, according to Achim Berg. “I am now almost of the opinion that we can only solve this if there is a big bang.” The Bitkom President explains what this bang should look like and why Germany needs a beta mode in the new episode of “So techt Deutschland”.
