Andrew Brown Jr. is 40, a family man, and black. Now the African American who lived in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, is dead. He was shot dead during a police operation. When he was shot, Brown was unarmed.
The incident occurred while officials were executing a search warrant, said Pasquotank District Sheriff Tommy Wooten on Wednesday afternoon (local time). The search was about the future victim, Andrew Brown Junior. However, the sheriff did not provide details of what happened or the reason for the search warrant against Brown.
Brown got in his car, then there was a shot
According to local media reports, the unarmed 40-year-old family man is said to have got into his car during the search and wanted to drive away. Family members said that it was shot.
The state agency is now investigating the incident. The officer who fired the shots is on leave until further notice, Wooten said. District Attorney Andrew Womble promised an in-depth investigation.
Killing one day after Floyd’s verdict
The incident occurred just one day after the guilty verdict against the white ex-police officer Derek Chauvin (45) in the case of the killed African American George Floyd († 46) in the state of Minnesota.
