blind and obstinate revenge

THE OPINION OF THE “WORLD” – TO SEE

A former detainee, who fled France after accidentally killing a man while on leave, has rebuilt his life in Thailand. He agrees, to buy the land of his dreams and those of his family, to lend a hand to a thug by conveying what is supposed to be drugs. The operation ends in disaster and the man embarks on a blind and obstinate revenge after the murder of his wife.

Farang is a film that runs several hares at the same time, forcing its viewer to change atmospheres, moods and expectations throughout the course of its story. Drama of reintegration, melodrama, revenge moviemartial arts film, all this coexists in a work which, like its hero, seems, like a sore bulldozer, to rush headlong towards who knows what.

If the company, reminiscent of the films of a Gareth Evans (The raid), who People worked with on the series Gangs of London, is not exempt from a certain candor and a taste for the staging of very primitive affects, Xavier Gens must be recognized for having a real know-how in the management of a violent action (very violent sometimes ) and instant painting of secondary characters. In this respect, Olivier Gourmet as an irrecoverable villain is quite amazing.

French film by Xavier Gens. With Nassim Lyes, Olivier Gourmet, Loryn Noonay (1h39).
