Last generation hits Sylt again

The last generation is increasingly targeting rich people. The activists claim that they are “primarily” to blame for the climate catastrophe. After a luxury hotel and a private jet, the group is now also smearing a Dior branch on Sylt. Even before the small party conference of the CDU, there is an action by the group.
Activists from the climate protection group Last Generation sprayed paint on a luxury fashion house and a jeweler in Kampen on the island of Sylt. Six people between the ages of 21 and 63 were taken into custody, the police said. Five of them are therefore no longer allowed to enter the island for two weeks.
According to an eyewitness, several activists initially used fire extinguishers to spray the storefronts orange. Then they placed themselves with posters in front of the shops. “For whom are you doing politics, Chancellor Scholz?” It said on one. Many vacationers and passers-by gathered around the event. According to the police, four of the activists then glued themselves to the ground in front of the entrance to the Dior store. Her hands were released again by officials. There were no injuries during the operation.
According to initial findings by investigators, five of the six people involved could be linked to other last generation protests on Sylt – four of them with paint smearings in a five-star hotel in Westerland on June 8 and one person with a private plane sprayed with paint on June 6th. The investigations into this are ongoing.
“Symbols of Overconsumption and Waste”
Last Wednesday, five activists also damaged parts of a golf course in Hörnum. According to their own statements, they exchanged the flag of a golf hole for a green sign that reads “nature reserve”. Here, too, four people received temporary residence bans for the island. The last generation itself referred to Friday’s action in a Twitter post.
The group had previously announced targeted protests against rich people. The reason given was that the climate catastrophe was being caused “primarily by the rich,” and that’s what they wanted to draw attention to. Private jets, five-star hotels, golf courses and luxury shops are “symbols of overconsumption and waste,” the post said.
The group also protested in Berlin on Friday. During the small party conference of the CDU, activists blocked parts of a street in front of the party headquarters. Four of the seven activists stuck to a lane in front of the Konrad-Adenauer-Haus. The group left a gap in the middle of the lane as an emergency lane through which the waiting vehicles could gradually proceed.
