Blockade of farmers: “We are going to invade the land”, the rumble of peasants takes over Belgium

Like their French colleagues, Belgian farmers are mobilizing and making their anger heard. Large-scale demonstrations took place in Wallonia and Brussels on Saturday and blockades, targeted actions and surprises will take place from Monday in different regions.

The anger of farmers is spreading throughout Europe. A convergence of struggles which affects Poland, Lithuania, Romania, Germany and now Belgium, where farmers kicked off large-scale demonstrations on Saturday in Wallonia and Brussels.

“The agricultural sector needs consideration and perspectives”

Targeted and surprise actions will take place on agro-industrial sites as well as blockades blocking major roads in Wallonia. These blockages are expected from this Sunday. “We are going to invade the field because it is time to show to what extent the agricultural sector needs consideration and perspectives. We will most certainly be called upon to remind our citizens of this,” says the spokesperson for the Belgian Federation of Young Farmers.

Actions will also be carried out in the north of the country. To raise awareness among political leaders, rallies will also take place. On Tuesday, farmers will mobilize in front of the Walloon government in Namur. On Thursday, tractors from all over Wallonia will travel to Brussels. A date not chosen at random, a European Council must be held there. Farmers want to be heard to denounce “the overly strict standards and regulations of the European Union”.
