“Blues” in the League Cup final
Chelsea handled Tottenham confidently
The first finalist of the English League Cup has been determined: Thanks to the goal of national player Antonio Rüdiger, Chelsea FC beat last year’s finalists Tottenham Hotspur. In the final, the team of coach Tuchel could meet Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
Chelsea FC became the first team to reach the English League Cup final. The team of German coach Thomas Tuchel deservedly won 1-0 (1-0) against local rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening after Chelsea had already won the first leg 2-0 a week ago.
Defender Antonio Rüdiger scored the only goal of the evening. The German national soccer player scored in the 18th minute with a head for the superior Blues, in which Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku started attacking, while Kai Havertz was not in the squad.
Tottenham had bad luck in front of their home crowd. First the referee took back a decision on a penalty for Spurs after video evidence, later another alleged penalty was withdrawn. In addition, a goal by Harry Kane was revoked after the VAR decision because of a narrow offside position. Due to a medical incident in the stands, the game was interrupted for several minutes just before the final whistle. What exactly had happened was initially not known.
In the final of the League Cup, Champions League winners Chelsea will face either Arsenal or Liverpool on February 27. The two teams play their semi-final first leg on Thursday and the second leg a week later. The meeting had been postponed due to an alleged corona outbreak among the Reds.
