Blumhouse Games: the famous creator of horror films Blumhouse (Get Out, Paranormal Activity) turns into a video game publisher

Cinema and video games have many things in common: while more and more publishers are launching their antenna to produce feature films with their licenses (Ubisoft, nintendo, playstation), film production studios have also taken the opposite route. Bad Robot Games should thus create video game experiences overseen by JJ Abrams and his teams, and A24 managed to create unforgettable titles with Annapurna Interactive (The Outer Wilds, Sayonara Wild Hearts…).

Another important actor of the cinema will follow the same path: Blumhouse Productions. The company created in 2000 by Jason Blum has already proven itself in Hollywood by producing hits like Paranormal Activity, Insidious, American Nightmare, get-out or more recently M3GAN (available for pre-order on DVD and Blu-ray from €15.05 at Amazon.co.uk). We owe him many horror feature films in recent years, and he is also working on an adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy’s. He now plans to expand his gaming empire with Blumhouse Gamesan unsurprising entity dedicated to the production of horror games.

It should not develop any on its own, but will serve publisher to indie developers for projects that will initially all cost less than $10 million, for PCs, consoles and mobiles. The branch will be chaired by Zach Wood, most recently Lead External Producer at the house of Iron Galaxy And Arkane, which was Senior Producer at the house of playstation from 2009 to 2016, and Don Sechler, former vice president of the antenna Global Head of Business Operations, Planning & Strategy of playstationwho will act as Chief Financial Officer.

“When we sat down with Zach and Don, they laid out an approach that resonated with the Blumhouse model and we knew it was a perfect place to start our push into the interactive space,” said Abhijay Prakash, President from Blumhouse Productions. “With their experience, sensitivity and knowledge of the gaming market, Zach and Don are the ideal leaders to leverage the unique strengths of the Blumhouse genre in video gaming. »

“Throughout my time in the industry, I’ve had the good fortune to work closely with developers to bring their ideas to life,” Wood said. “There is a unique opportunity for horror and the genre in the indie game space, and I’m thrilled to team up with Blumhouse to meaningfully leverage the brand, reputation and creative talent of the Company. »

A great adventure begins and we will certainly have to keep an eye on it. History, however, does not yet say whether Blumhouse Games will publish original franchises or rely on its huge catalog of horror films.
