(CercleFinance.com) – The American Federal Civil Aviation Administration (FAA) announced Thursday that it was working with Boeing to correct a screw problem affecting the control circuit of its 737 MAX aircraft
In consultation with the FAA, Boeing has asked companies operating newer models of the single-aisle aircraft to inspect the tie rods that control rudder movement to ensure they are tight enough.
The FAA explains that it plans to remain in contact with the aircraft manufacturer and airlines throughout the duration of the inspections.
The agency is seeking in particular to determine whether these airlines have previously noticed a loosening of their equipment.
In a statement, the regulator explains that Boeing recommended these inspections after an international operator discovered a bolt with a missing nut while carrying out routine maintenance on an aircraft.
The aeronautical group discovered the same problem on another plane, not yet delivered to its customer.
Following this information, Boeing shares fell 0.9% Thursday morning on the New York Stock Exchange.
