The city of Bordeaux is still in shock. This Wednesday evening, a man in his twenties stabbed two people on the banks of the Garonne in Bordeaux, killing one of them. At the origin of the conflict: the consumption of alcohol by two victims. The killer allegedly accused the two men of North African origin of drinking alcohol during the Eid el-Fitr festival, before hitting them, then stabbing them. Two other people had also been hit by the individual for the same reason a little earlier, while they were having a glass of rosé.
The killer, believed to be a 25-year-old Afghan, was shot dead by the police, while the terrorist trail has not been accepted for the moment, the public prosecutor stressed during her press conference.
“French freedom”
Invited this Friday, Renaissance MP for Hauts-de-Seine Maud Bregeon said she was “very worried” about these facts. “I am very worried in view of the various facts, which I will not qualify as news items, these social facts. Bordeaux, Viry-Châtillon, Montpellier with the young Samara… I believe that today, the whole society must be questioned,” she believes.
“It is the school which must be questioned. It is the family authority which must be questioned, It is the authority in the street which must be questioned and this is the place of secularism. It is perhaps – be time to reaffirm this great republican pact which is secularism, which is freedom and, if I may say so, French-style freedom, the freedom to live as we wish, the freedom to move around in the “public space, the freedom to dress as you wish when you are a woman, when you are a young woman, and the freedom to practice religion or not”, she continues.
No longer retreat in the face of threat
The former nuclear engineer nevertheless assures that the State will not give up anything. “We will not give up anything at school, we will not give up anything in terms of the means deployed once again for secularism, nothing but secularism, only secularism,” underlines Maud Bregeon.
The elected official nevertheless denounces the blindness of certain parties for years “of refusing to qualify what is happening. Today there is an Islamism in France which is trying to put a penknife in the republican pact”. “I think that naming things is already a very important step forward and perhaps we have not done it enough in the past,” she concludes, before adding: “We must reaffirm the values that are ours, as the President of the Republic did, as Gabriel Attal does, in the street or at school.
