Last week, PS Plus subscribers stepped up because they could not access the new version of a game that is currently very popular for free. Good news: their complaints have been heard.
On the Extra and Premium levels, PS Plus subscribers, Fallout 4 has sowed confusion and apocalypse with the deployment of its “next-gen” patch. It was then not possible for users to access it for free. A fix should now be applied, but not visibly without collateral damage.
A dose of RadAway on the PS Plus version of Fallout 4
After the radioactive success of the Fallout series on Prime Video, Bethesda wanted to ride the wave with a major patch for Fallout 4. Deployed on April 25, this notably offered a native version on PS5 and Xbox Series. In principle, switching from one generation of consoles to another should be free by owning the original version of the game via a subscription service. This was obviously not the case on the PS Plus, to the great dismay of its Extra or Premium users. They rightly showed their discontent.
Bethesda seems to have heard them and a fix was put in place over the weekend. Extra and Premium subscribers should now in principle be able to access the PS5 version of Fallout 4 for free, provided of course that they have the base game on the subscription service. Finally some good news in the middle of the apocalypse, in short. But this famous “next-gen” patch seems to have had many repercussions.
All is not yet rosy in the Commonwealth
Subscribers who purchased Fallout 4 from the late PS Plus Collection, for example, cannot access the free upgrade. Likewise, some users are still reporting not being able to upgrade to the new version of the game for free, despite Bethesda deploying a patch. Finally, confusion remains regarding eligibility for the patch in digital or physical version on PS5 depending on what players had on PS4.
On Xbox Series, the situation seems to be much clearer. Unlike PS Plus subscribers, those on Game Pass were obviously able to access the new version of Fallout 4 without problem. Overall, PS Plus subscribers and PC players share one thing in common: the “next-gen” patch for the Bethesda title released in 2015 is a cold shower for them. On these two platforms, it has obviously brought more problems than solutions. Can the situation be salvaged by deploying another minor patch? However, nothing is less certain.
