Bright lipstick – the best tips from a professional

Bright lipstick is perfect for summer – but unfortunately you can go wrong with it. We have the best professional tips for you!

Bring out the bright colors – summer is finally here. And when it's warm and sunny outside, many of us feel like adding a little more color. At least on the lips. However, there are a few things you should be aware of, especially with bright colors. Stephanie Schollbach, brand trainer at IT Cosmetics and Urban Decay, told us what these are.

Bright lipstick – dos & don'ts

First things first: Before we just slap the bright colors on the lip, we should first do a little preparatory work. Because: especially with eye-catching colors, every detail has to be right, otherwise it just doesn't look good. Stephanie also advises us:

The most important thing is the preparation of the lip. I would go over the contours over it with a bit of makeup that is still in the brush or sponge so you can draw cleanly.

And not only that: We should definitely choose a contour pencil in the right color – especially with opaque lipsticks. "No matter whether the lipstick is glossy, creamy or matte. I think an accurately drawn lip always looks sexier than lipstick that is somehow crooked. Especially with such bright colors," says Stephanie.

Which color suits me?

So far so good. But which bright color is best for us. Do we just decide according to taste (which of course always plays a role) or can we orientate ourselves on other things? Do I want to match the color of what I am wearing today? According to the expert, you can work here in a complementary manner or tone on tone. Or do I want my eye color to shine and my teeth to look whiter?

With blue eyes you can work super well with coral or copper tones and strong orange. If I have green eyes, then I would choose a really strong, pure red. If I have brown eyes and they should shine more amber-golden, I would rather choose a purple lipstick with a blue component – i.e. a berry shade. If you want them to look darker and cooler, I would rather go in the red direction, for example a clear red.

If you want to wear bright lipstick AND look fresh, it is best to use subtle eye make-up.

I set a focus and that is either lip or eye.

"Just put on a soft, shimmering eyeshadow that might enhance your eye color, put a lot of mascara on it and make sure the brows are well defined," advises Stephanie. We want to give the lip space to work. Of course, that doesn't mean that both can be emphasized. Everyone just has to find out for themselves whether and how portable this is for them.
