Bright spots in the corona crisis | BRIGITTE.de

The corona virus will claim tens of thousands of human lives worldwide, destroy livelihoods and temporarily restrict all of us drastically in our freedom – we are in one of the worst crises that mankind has ever had to overcome. But there are also bright spots during this time. And we can rely on that.

8 bright spots in the corona crisis

1. It strengthens cohesion and solidarity

At the moment we all have the same goal: to slow the spread of the virus. We have to give the health system time so that as few people as possible die in this crisis. For this we do without meetings with friends, restaurant visits, sports courses and much more. All people who are at home as much as possible now behave considerately and in solidarity. But that's not all: Neighbors help each other, make purchases for people in their area who belong to the risk group. In Italy, people curfew on their balconies. THAT is humanity. This is how consideration, cohesion and solidarity go. We obviously can.

2. It strengthens our trust in each other

In the meantime, all sensible employers let their employees work in the home office, if possible – the only right decision, of course, but it's still a sign of trust. We have to trust that politicians are now making the right decisions and pulling everyone together and doing their best to behave properly and not endanger anyone unnecessarily.

3. It lets us recognize true heroes

Supermarket employees, medical professionals such as nursing staff, doctors, paramedics, truck drivers – occupational groups who are underestimated in quiet times are the heroes of this crisis. We owe it to you that we continue to receive food and that the sick are cared for. We should never forget that again in the future.

4. It advances us technically

Agreements, conferences, chats – all of a sudden, millions of people only do it online and it works amazingly well. If there is a problem somewhere, it is learning that experts can use to develop new solutions.

5. We learn to appreciate our life again

Meeting friends, going to concerts, having a drink, traveling – a lot of things that we otherwise take for granted are currently not included. As a result, we recognize it again for what it actually is: a huge luxury!

6. We remember what is really important

Even if politicians are currently often talking about the economic consequences and a possible economic crisis due to the virus and sometimes one might wish for even more empathy towards the victims, we can see by ourselves what is most important in our lives: health! If people are not in good health, our entire system breaks down and we lose all our privileges. From this we should learn the lesson that making our physical and mental health generally a priority in our lives.

7. We get the chance for a fresh start

The corona crisis forces many people to start all over again – but that is also an opportunity. However, as a society, we must be ready to help those who lose everything because of the virus to start again. Ideally, our world can become even more beautiful after the crisis than before. An example: Let us assume that a fast food chain that obtains meat from factory farming would go bankrupt in this crisis and would then be "reborn" as a vegetarian franchise gastronomy that only uses sustainable products. Admittedly, this is somewhat exaggerated and probably unfortunately utopian, but theoretically a forced change in our economy can bring positive things …

8. We reflect on ourselves

Since most of the entertainment and entertainment offers that otherwise distract us from dealing with ourselves are eliminated, the corona crisis now forces us to make up for what we usually avoid. This can both strengthen our self-confidence and support us in finding ourselves. We get to know ourselves from a new angle, strengthen skills such as patience, creativity, modesty and humility.

Conclusion: Of course, a crisis with several thousand fatalities cannot be nicely talked about. But we have to deal with it now. The corona crisis gives us the opportunity to learn to become better people and to make the world more beautiful. We should take this opportunity – (also) in honor of the victims …
